Sharing the Love of Jesus
A Servant’s Tale
“Jesus loves us, this we know.” Many of us have been singing this little chorus for a long time. Jesus’ love is true. We know this! We cling to this! But, do we live our lives like this is true? Do we love our neighbors? Do we even know their names? Do we love the person across the pew from us? The one in front of us? Behind us? When we find ourselves on the receiving end of “not so great” service at our favorite restaurant, are we kind to our servers? Driving? I won’t go there. Do we pray for those we disagree with, seeking God’s best for them? If we know that Jesus loves us, then let’s be an outpost of the Kingdom of God and share that love with the world around us. How cool would it be if our neighbors here in Oakland, when asked about the church up on the hill, said, “that church loves this community?” It sounds good to your minister. It starts with each of us asking God to fill us with the Holy Spirit and then giving ourselves over to God’s will for our lives, this church, and this community. I’m in! Can I write your name down too?
